At each major Katori Campout, each tribe attending
presents a brief skit at the Saturday night campfire, weather permitting. Here are some
guidelines that may help your tribe prepare a skit.
Your tribes skit should be done by both
fathers and children. It can be intimidating for the youngsters to be up on the stage, and
its a lot more fun and less scary when the whole tribe participates.
Skits can be tribe songs, campout songs, cheers,
poems, jokes, something about Indian ways or about your tribe. Tribe songs are very safe
as no other tribe will use your idea before you get onstage. If using a skit you have seen
before, have a backup planned in case another tribe uses it first!
Keep those skits short! A couple of minutes will
do it. Remember, were at the end of a long day and the guides and princesses (not to
mention the braves!) are worn out.
Listen to the Tally Keeper and be ready when your
tribe is called. Try to get on and off the stage quickly, to keep things moving. We
usually have a tribe on stage and one "on deck".
If a tribe giving a skit makes fun of other
tribes, its perfectly fine to boo and hoot them off the stage, otherwise, a considerate
response is more appropriate. Again, we want to keep this fun for the children, and keep
the intimidation down to a minimum.
The Nation Officers are good sports about being
made fun of. If you plan a skit with "physical" humor, please clear it in
advance with the officer you plan to victimize.
